In a Spreadsheet question you solve the challenge in a spreadsheet that opens right in your browser. You do not need Excel or to install anything: the data is already in the spreadsheet and you answer in the open cells, with values and formulas.
Watch what answering a Spreadsheet question looks like:
Before you start
Use a computer. The question does not open on phones or tablets.
Use an up-to-date browser, such as Chrome, Edge or Firefox.
Set aside the time planned for the question.
The question screen
On the left is the brief, with what you need to calculate and where each answer goes. On the right is the spreadsheet, with its tabs at the bottom.
Where to answer
You can only fill in the open cells, which show up in white. The others are part of the question's data and are locked: if you try to change one of them, the screen lets you know.
Formulas and function names
Formulas use the English function names, such as SUM and VLOOKUP. If the platform is in Portuguese or Spanish, a button above the spreadsheet opens a reference table: search for the name you know and the table shows the name that goes in the formula.
The table is for reference only and does not write in the spreadsheet. While you type a formula, the spreadsheet shows the function's arguments.
Your answer saves itself
The spreadsheet saves your answer about one second after every change. The Saved notice at the top of the screen confirms it.
Question time
The timer is at the top of the screen. Click it to see how much time is left.
How to submit
When you are done, click Send in the top right corner and confirm. The button becomes available once at least one cell is filled in.
After submitting, you cannot change the answer. If time runs out first, the answer is finalized with whatever is saved. If the question asks for a presentation video, you record it after answering, with your spreadsheet on screen.
Frequently asked questions
Do I need Excel installed?
No. Everything runs in the browser.
Can I use function names in Portuguese or Spanish?
No. The spreadsheet only accepts the English names. Use the reference table to find each one.
Do I lose my work if the internet drops or I close the tab?
No. The answer saves after every change and comes back when you reopen the question.
Can I reopen the question after submitting?
No. That is why submitting asks for confirmation.
